The reason sports gets the millions is because of corporate sponsors, spectator income, and sales of merchandise. Need to work on that aspect if we expect chess players to remain free and still get paid well.
I really resent the English Chess Federation putting up money for England's top players to go on junkets. I have no problem with top players being the arrogant obsessive primadonnas they are, but not at my expense. The ECF is becoming too politicised in my opinion as well. As a club member I have to pay towards the ECF. Chess is a only a game/sport, not matter how much we like it. Professional sportsman first of all just represent themselves before their countries.
