Passed pawn dilema

When a player obtains a passed pawn in the middlegame, should he aim to trade pieces or avoid it? Theory stipulates that when one has a pawn advantage, trading pieces is beneficial for him. However, I know from Chess Mentor that the player with a passed pawn is advised to not trade queens. So does the exchange theory alter with the presence of a passer?

I would say if you have an advantage trading is good in most cases, you have to jugde it while you play, and it doesn't make your position weaker.

But does trading pieces off help my passer to promotion?

i think that trrading minor pieces is good in that situation, but rooks and queens require a second consideration, as they are "experts" at supporting passed pawns. you should look a few moves ahead to see it pays off and that the pawn is promoted succesfully before trading queens.
