i have never seen or heard of a pawn being promoted to anything else but a queen, i am interested to know if anyone here has seen or heard of a pawn being promoted to a rook , knight, or bishop.
There are lots (well, some, anyway) of games where underpromotion occurred as a serious move rather than just screwing around. The section on "Underpromotion" in Wikipedia's Pawn Promotion article gives several examples, most relatively recent, of promotions to Knights and Bishops.

You'll have to copy and paste the link-- it won't hyperlink properly in this post.
EDIT: In Zurakhov vs. Koblentz, Tbilisi 1956 White promoted to a Knight twice in the game, and in both instances that was required to save the game-- any other promotion was losing.
