I had a mishap in fifth grade. I defeated this guy and he convinced me that in order to win, I had to take his queen too. After my second loss (first loss not due to gullibility) I quit chess for the most part until I was 20.

Reminds me of one bonehead a long time ago who took one of my pawns with his knight but then ALSO removed one of my pawns he jumped over!! I thought, 'Who IZ this guy, Mr. Checkers King?!??' I called him on it and he just said, 'Yeah, the knight's the only piece that can jump and take pieces like that.'      Foot in Mouth    *  S I G H *

The joys of having an alternative set of rules. Any reasonable person would have taken the move back and captured the pawn with a smile on their face. All's swell that ends well.

I'm a very reasonable person but I would never take that idiot's pawn just to bend to his unfortunate upbringing! The pawn to the 6th rank was a thorn in his game, why waste the opportunity on his stupidity?!

My chess was born in Phoenix when me and a little red-haired girl tried to  learn  the game on the apartment steps in the warm sun in 1967. I was 11. Like a dream it was so long ago. wink.png
