Sad to say but this topic will do absolutely nothing because kasparov is probably not gonna see it and he isnt governed by user petitions

Haha... But Kasparov's participation can definitely influence the prize fund. Rex may decide to increase the budget for the event even more. Kasparov, on his part, can donate his share to the endeavor of promoting chess in Africa like he did this year. Looks like a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Not to mention that the event will generate even more buzz next time around, so it will be a positive feedback loop.

Actually, Kasparov does has an account on chess.com. He even wrote an article about Victor Korchnoi last year. So, Kasparov knows that this is the largest chess platform and he may be checking things out from time to time.

And if there is a strong enough unified petition that continues to accumulate votes over time, then there is a chance that he will notice it and be influenced by it as well.

I hate to be "the bearer of bad news", but ultimately, it is his choice. If he decides to go or not to go, we can't stop him. So, what's with the petition if you can't get him to play?

Of course it is, ultimately, his choice. But if there is a public interest in seeing him come back, it may influence his decision.

It may influence him to train physically and mentally, getting himself in a better shape and giving it a go.

So the positive encouragement does play a positive role. The good thing is that Kasparov himself didn't rule out the possibility of return. And there are some good reasons for that.

Apart from the reasons I outlined in terms of public response, there's also the the thing of testing himself.

Kasparov did perform iffy at first. But his last day was pretty good once he got back into the flow and shook some rust off. So, the question is whether he can do better than that if he trained a little more. This is what many people are asking and, I think, he himself is asking himself. And this is why there is a huge interest in a lot of people's mind to find out...
