Yes, you should be able to download and save the PGN file even to your desktop, then right click on the PGN file on your desktop, and then click to open it with MS Word. It sounds as if you have set all PGN files on your computer to be associated with some chess program and therefore they are automatically opening in your chess program.
pgn files
I haven't done anything like that. One game DL'd as normal, then the next started DLing as I mentioned. Both were DL'd within a minute or two of each other. Help??

I use a mac but its just whatever your computer has set as the default app to open the program. I don't know about PC's, but right-click and open with...text edit (any text editor) works for me.
If you open a word procesor you can always drag and drop the pgn into the word processor and the file opens.

Tried that but only got the icon for the game in Word 2007 and could not open the pgn file.
Try copy/paste to the notepad or wordpad (whichever does not preserve formatting).
Tried copying from the game 'moves' list, but could not highlight the moves to copy.
If my pgn files got associated to open with another application, how can I find out? And how might I undo it?

You can google for "change file association for [operating system here]" for example xp, vista, etc.
Also you could try right clicking on the file and selecting "open with" and if MS word isn't on the list click the bottom option which will let you pick form bigger list.

When I right-click on the 'get pgn' it only mentions opening link in another window; copying link, etc. Nothing about the file itself.

No, don't right click on the web page link. Right click on the file after you have downloaded it. One of the options should be "open with...," which will allow you to pick a program to open the file with. Pick Word or NotePad or some other word processing program.
Okay, to get the file on your desktop, right click and select the "Save Link As" option. Or, if you use Firefox like I do, you can just click on the pgn icon and it will give you the option to save or open. Save the file where you want it (on your desktop.
Right click on the file. Mouse over "Open With..." in the menu and several options will pop out. Select "Choose Program...". A box will open with all the applications that open files on your computer. At the bottom there will be a check box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Check this box. Select MS Word or whatever you want and hit ok.
You should now have your pgn files associated with Word.
I was trying to do it on the game page where it says 'get pgn'. On the desktop right-clicking works like a charm. Thanks for all your help!! It's much appreciated.
After completing a game, I used to be able to save the pgn file and open in MS Word. Now, when I click on the get pgn button, a file is DL'd to my desktop that opens in a gameboard. Is there any way to get back to downloading the pgn file to open in MS Word?
