Placement of the Knight on the board

Is there a correct way to originally position the Knight on the board? Should the Knights be facing each other, or are they to be both facing a certain way, etc?

That's a good question. I assume that their heads are to be pointed as if they were riding off into battle (in the direction of your opponent). However, we better check with the chess experts at chess.com!

I like to have them facing each other; I find it more visually appealing.

But I doubt there's an official answer.

I would think that the knights, face ahead like they are going into battle

i always face mine to the left.

I have mine facing the king, toward each other, as my board sits in set up in standby. I don't get a chance to play OTB except for study and replaying. I suppose I should do whatever annoys my opponent. I remember one person saying they make their knights face backward which annoyed the opponent.

I always have mine facing forward in over the board. It just seems natural charging toward the other king but I don't think it really matters.

I always have mine facing each other, just something I've done since I was little.  Do what thou wilt.

Rotate your knight 180° to the left when you pick it up as if you were unlocking it from the board (sound effect optional ) and 180°to the right when you put it down to lock it back in place.
