Places where it would be rude to bring your chess set?

Like planking, but with chess. :)

YES...... hey what do you guys think about Thanksgiving next week? Should we all bring our mini chess sets to Thanksgiving dinner (or if we dare, tournament set?) :') I don't think we'd be getting any dessert...

AmyLB

Of course!!  You will find out how many of your relatives wish they played chess--and how many of them do and want to get in on it.  Forget the mini--take the tourney set and enjoy!

The holidays are about gathering and engaging and being present with those we love.  Chess is all that and some pumpkin pie.  And deep red wine.  :)

Take your board and I predict you will be doing so for years to come.  I know my son and I will be playing.  Might even get to kick my ex-husband's ass.  Now that would be fun.  :)

Oh--and tell us how it goes!!

AmyLB

Omg, I love it!!

We should start a thing called Chess-ing. Take a picture of you and someone else playing chess in an "odd" place. At my university, maybe two of us could be casually lying on the tables in the Dining Commons facing each other with a board between us. Can you picture that? Either a picture or a short video could be pretty funny... x]

Sounds like a challenge. . .

Edit: A FUNERAL, THE BIRTH OF A BABY, A CONCERT, A RUNWAY SHOW, YOUR SIBLING'S GRADUATION, YOUR OWN GRADUATION, THANKSGIVING DINNER, ETC. ETC.?

My situation: I was just wondering right now, would it be rude to bring my chess set to someone's birthday party this Thursday? She is having it at a restaurant and inviting many people. I don't want to take the attention off of her because it's her night. At the same time, I know people carry their chess sets around sometimes to have pick up games. What do you think I should do? Thanks

Well I'm the guy who brings his chess set almost everywhere. But mine's a smaller chess set so I don't have to carry it around like a suitcase, it stays in my satchel.

But I would carry my chess set to places or events where I could use up some spare time if ever things become boring.

"Congratulations, it's a boy!" 'Great, I moved d4, your turn?'

What's wrong with bringing your chess set to a gang meeting?

Would probably be considered rude if I brought  a chess set to my draughts (checkers) club.

Naaa. At chess club I encouraged someone to bring their "Go" board, and they did!

Yeah let's see who has the balls or lady balls to post an original Chess-ing pic!!! The ruder, the stranger, the awesomer – the better!

In the rest room when somebody is doing their business.

At a wedding.

While your mate is wanting some one on one time.

On the hood of somebodies car when they are about to leave....

On the register at the checkout lane in the supermarket.

At the back in front of the teller.

On the back of your dog or cat.

On the back of your lover when they trying to sleep.

In front of tv when somebody watching their favorite show.

On top of the washing machine when somebody trying to start it.

On top of another chess game in progress.

In the tub while a person taking a bath.

I set up a chess game once on top of my friend's dog at their house.

Problem: It might be awkward to take a full chess set somewhere.

Solution: Take this instead:

r_k_ting

Ha!

And everyone thought it was your Ipad.
