i normally give a rematch if i have time, i think if you beat someone and you are playing black then they can't cry about not getting a rematch though.
players who hit and run...
To be honest it doesn't bother me. I usually don't offer rematches, but I rarely ever decline them. If someone feels like they want another shot, why not? If I lost and they offer, I appreciate the gesture of giving me a second chance. If I destroyed the opponent and they still want another game, I'm okay with that; it's a chance for them to improve their game. That said if people didn't leave chat so quickly, I might start offering rematches after fun games.

There is no obligation to rematch. If that guy doesn't want a second helping, just forget about him, and move on to your next victim.

i never offer, or accept rematches. Playing the same person twice is usually very boring.
I don't mind playing a couple games against the same opponent. But I have a very narrow opening repetoire. Not a lot of variety. If my opponent is the same way, we will be rehashing the same old lines. That will get borting quickly.

Considering that Gelfand just beat the best in the world in Moscow, I would say that suggests giving someone a rematch shows confidence. On any given day an underdog may prevail. Flip the board and win again. Afraid your opponent has you figured out?
This is the kind of attitude I was talking about. All about one player. Whether the winning player "has confidence" or is "afraid" is not really any concern of the loser ;). The assumption that this is so, after having just lost to said person, is pretty self-centered and arrogant.
Some players feel "dismissed", I guess. Even that is self-centered. It implies the person being declined for a rematch is being intentionally slighted ("what, first you beat me on a lucky game, and then you snub me by declining a rematch?') when the truth is that the person declining is probably indifferent and hasn't given it a second thought at all. No malice involved.
Of course, that could also be the problem. It's a blow to one's ego to feel that someone is just indifferent and moving on without acknowledgement. Regardless, all of that stuff is in the declinee's head, and not healthy.

This.
Non-rematches are not issue, but if they become one, it's because of the rematch-wanting side.
Hmmm, probably chess.com could implement at least 2 game matches as an addition to the current single game mode.
When this is implemented, I just wouldn't play with single game players like trysts.
The Question is another one, how many players, who hit and run, would do that in real life?
Internet is a nest of frustrated people, who think, they are more than they really are and something like online(live) chess gives that courage, they don't have.
Each one, who does it, increases my blocked list. It's easy, isn't it?
But there is something worst, people, who laugh, if they win.
Too many retarded people on this site. What a pity!
Less, but there are still some that would do it in real life. It's not the same amount because there are times when it wouldn't be worth the trouble to play one or a few games and then suddenly leave just because of one win.

omg are we really discussing this again? Not everyone has the time to give you a rematch. It has nothing to do with honor. You lost. Get over it. You will survive without getting a rematch. Find a new opponent and stop crying.
He wants a rematch. Like this denizen of legend who rose from a coffin, maybe his hopes of a chess rematch can also rise again.

I don't generally do rematches because, quite frankly, I suck. I try to play different people as much as possible in an effort to improve. At my level, you don't usually learn much from your opponent because he stinks too. Every so often, someone comes along who has something to show me and he will get a rematch but in general I don't.

Yeah, then it could be said, you are one of them. On Internet you play like this, in the real life you play quite different.
The point ist not, whether you are right to not offer a rematch, think about it, how many people would play against those people, who don't offer rematch if they would know, that it won't happen?
Perhaps all the people who dont offer rematch, would play together. Everyone would succeed!!!

I never give a rematch and I never ask for a rematch and I find the whole "rematch is a matter of honour and chessetiquette"-thing highly ridiculous
I find a bullet match (1/0) rather exhausting thats why I will always do a short break of sime min. before playing the next. As I am nearly every day 1 or 2 hours here online, I will rematch any of my opponents dozens of times in my chess.com career. So the whole rematch thing is IMHO anachronistic
What a classic American issue.
