Opiates honestly just give me a nausea debuff and that's about it. Which is probably ultimately fortunate. Dissociatives on the otherhand have all the benefits of an opiate and more

Very very common reaction indeed, and in fact, probably the most common. I'm in the minority in that they hit me in a place that was always missing, giving me a feeling that the world is complete where before it was not. But most people feel sick on them. Depends on the person absolutely.

Though I have tried many things, more than most I'd wager, sadly, I've yet to experience the family of disassociatives.

Yup, Dilaudid, though not as well known, is definitely the strongest thing I've ever experienced. More powerful than Cocaine or Heroin.

Slow Pawn is correct. Opiates just make everything more interesting. Everything from Chess, Roller Coasters, reading, studying, sex, being around people, to doing dishes is just more "fun." I found I even wanted to learn shit like how to fix cars and program in C, on them. Just imagine a buff that adds a +2 to your "Interest, Ambition, Motivation" stats. I learned more with them than a lifetime without. It is also true, that when they finally dry up and no more are around, (and it always happens, eventually, the source goes cold, no matter how reliable before, and the music stops) there is a big sense that the world is boring. You do find difficulty in having fun with things you did before.

Sounds a lot like my brother's experience. He was happy when he had it, but he didn't always. His habit cost a fortune, something like a hundred bucks every time he went to get some, which I'm not sure but that might've been daily, and there was a lot of pretty low things he did to get money. We all stopped lending him money so then he would steal from us. I remember he stayed over at my place one night and in the morning he was gone, along with my playstation and my wife's gucci watch. He's doing good now though, besides not finding enjoyment in everyday things like before.

Only did it once, never again. About 16 years ago under th influence of cocaine and Manhattans. With Iron Maiden blasting on headset. Blundered like crazy. Never again.

a concern would be psychological dependence ie "my chess sucks when im straight "

#54, what's it that you see on my profile?

The OP blaming weed for being low rated is a crock! I'm a stoned bunny and I play just fine.

Played while high on marijuana when I was in college.  I was the much better player so I had 3 mins to my opponent's 12 mins.  The winner had to take another hit.  I played 'okay,' but in a couple of the games, I noticed that, at one point, my opponent had two bishops of the same color.  I tried to convince him that at sometime he had gotten away with an illegal move, but he was too high to comprehend.

I heard Charlie Sheen plays here sometimes.

Oh, that's sounds pretty far in. At my peak I only required about $300, $350 a month for all I needed. A significant bill, but nothing like $100 a day. But the productivity I got back in return did pay for the investment, so no regrets. The key is to keep as even of a keel as possible, and maintain a steady discipline and routine without going overboard. Depends on the person of course, but I knew the stories and kept the recreation within manageable parameters.

His habit started out that way. I think some people have better self control when it comes to things like that. That's why I think methadone was his only option. I never agreed with the idea of methadone, I always thought it more of a substitution rather than a solution, but it his case it saved his life.

That's one thing I never did, heroin. I am NOT stickin a damn needle in my arm. My cousin died from that shit a few years ago. A bad batch came through my area and she bought some of it. Left behind twin 6 year old boys.

I feel like I've had a chemistry lesson. I can almost make this stuff now. but my best moves come when I'm intoxicated. however, they're statistically outnumbered by most worst. ha ha

For- slow pawn. No one really ever has control over a drug like heroin. Dependency is rapid no matter how it's taken. It's like Pandora's box. Intreveinous users are lucky if they live 5 years and nearly all are dead in 10-15 years of continuous use. Good to hear your brother escaped its clutch, I know how hard it is to stay clean and not relapse/lapse-it's a daily psychological battle.

Anyone thinking of using a drug like heroin for the first time, either to improve their life or their game should know it's no joke and would be playing with death..

At first it's good, then its bad.....very very bad...

Thanks man. I know he took heroin from time to time when he couldn't find his thing, but he started out with percocets, and then these high dosage, time released things. Not sure why they even get made, seems like a recipe for disaster. I know he snorted them because I saw him do it, but I didn't see him touch any needles, which I'm sure would've made things way worse. He went on methadone for about 4 years and as of now, for about two years, he takes nothing. He's my twin brother and my best friend, so it was a long tough road. How did you overcome your struggles, SylentSwords?

Percocet is oxycodone/paracetamol is synthetic, and it's about a third to half the strength of diamorphine/heroin. It's hard for an addict to talk about, and it doesn't surprise me that you're not totally sure about whether or not your brother was injecting at any time in the past.

I've never been on a Methadone programme, cold turkey, must have done over 200 withdrawals in 5 yrs, a lot of physical and psychological pain. I've been going to weekly CBT sessions with a drug keyworker for nearly 2 years. Methadones half life is much longer than heroin (15-60 hours) and by most accounts is harder to get off..And that's prescription meds... Subutex or ibuprenorphine is also a substitute with a long half life, and it's often mixed with heroin..

All...are horrific to come off..

To answer your q, I haven't overcome it all yet, I don't think. Its still a daily battle to avoid the triggers and negative thoughts. Once an addict always an addict, it's just keeping that in mind. The pain I know I will go through is what stops me...

Hang in there, SylentSwords. It's pretty sweet that you're playing chess and still here today talking about it. Those percentages you gave before are pretty scary. Good luck man.

I've played quite a few here who claimed to be high on pot.  Most were not too shabby.  But i suck so my opinion on their play isn't worth much.
