Playing in Large Open Tournaments

In the past, I have played a few quite large open tournaments such as the Chicago open. However, my main focus has always been smaller 10-30 man tournaments at my local club (that's not to say I've always been playing the same people or my rating is inflated, as my progression has moved me onto new and tougher opponents). Yet, in a couple weeks, I'm playing in the US Open. Any suggestions on how to prepare and/or what to do in the event to give myself the best chances of playing well? Should I play more mainstream openings or less main-linish openings (such as playing the main lines of 1.d4 vs. playing Trompowsky)? Thanks!
