To be elite takes talent and dedication. 450 million play basketball around the world and there are exactly 450 players in the NBA. There are chess players and basketball players who train every day for hours and hours who never make it to the top no matter how hard they try.

Trying to be a GM is not right!
I think trying to beat GM,s is much effective and if you do that you will be a GM automatically.
Dont try to get titles. just try to beat higher titled players and you will see your improving easily

There are about 1200 GMs in the whole world. There are about that many professors in the Uni's in Australia alone. The top 10 GMs make the same kind of money as a professor does.
If you think you are smart and dedicated enough to be a GM, you would be much better off studying hard. You might even discover something more useful than a new sideline 17 moves into the Alekhine Defence.
