point system

Hi

I think I see a lot of draws in chess. Some of them are fair, but sometimes I think

two players agree to a draw just to get a ½ point.

I think if the point system was changed so that a win will result in 3 points

and a draw will result in 1 point for each player.

I think we would see a lof of games where both sides push for a win.

I think it would be great if FIDE considered it. what do you think?

I is only a debate. Nothing serious...(because I don't really think someone is going to change it)

bjazz

It's not a debate unless someone states an argument.

bobbyDK

debate maybe the wrong word, but don't you think a change in the point system is needed.

3 points for victory and 1 point for draw will be a needed improvement in chess!

-3 point for victory. +more people will push even harder for a win because a draw is less attractive. +maybe less people will agree to a draw before the game because is not attractive.

The real winner will be found in 7 rounds tournaments: a player may win with 2 victories and 5 draws  (4½/11).  Another player with 4 victories only get second place (4/12). with the right change he will win. 12 is more than 11.

I have changed my view from nothing serious to "let us change it".

3 points for victory and 1 point for draw.

Puroi

This change promotes risk taking and will lead to overall less accurate games which I don't think is a good thing.

I would rather see boring but accurate draws than wins which stem from dubious play.

Puchiko

What is the actual downside of draws, may I ask?

bobbyDK

there would be no downside to draws if draws always were correct. I have been to several tournanments and seen players agree to a draw because mathematically they would not ruin something for them both.  afterwards one of them won the tournament. they agreed to a draw very openly everyone knew about it.

to Puroi I don't think it will lead to risk taking just that people will have to prove their endgame skills. we are humans not computers. The last one to make a mistake is usually the persons that looses.

What happened to the fighting spirit in chess?

bobbyDK

and just because two chessmasters agreed to a draw in a certain position doesn't mean that everybody should do it. They are endgame masters and now how to play perfect. I now one he would accept a draw to a very lower ratet  because he has seen two grandmasters agree to draw in a reached position.

I can add that I heard a club tried it out to get 3 point for victory and only 1 point for draw.

there was acually less draws. people played to win.

what a victory for the chessgame.

Now people in my chess club considers it. YES.

3 point for victory and 1 point for draw.
