first post.......odd topic :)

hello everyone, new to this forum and first post.

Im a novice player.

who plays mostly online on a 2 dimentional board.

i have problems when playing on a real board because im used to seeing it as a "picture" ,as opposed to the real physical veiw and my mental programming doesnt analyze the board the same way.

does anyone else notice they play with a difference  in one form or another or a preference?....thoughts?

another question to ponder reguardless of the media you play on most the time is does  "physicaly" moving real pieces while studying  help to learn better in general??

i guess it couldnt hurt, especially in my case, and im sure alot of people here do just that.

my chessmaster has a 3d veiw but its not the same.

figure the only way to get used to it is to dust off one of my 3 boards lying aroung the house and use them when im practicing .

so i think i found the obvious soloution to my own dilemma and left a question to ponder amongst the masses.....thank you for your attention.

glad to be here :)?!

i have the same problem. it is hard for me to transition between the two - over the board and computer monitor. the worst one is the 3-d on the computer - i can't STAND that.

Same problem here. With a 3d board I dont look at anything the same as I do with a 2d board.

I always play online on a 2 dimensional board, but I can't stand too much time in front of the computer because my eyes hurt. I hate 3d boards on the computer, I can't concentrate.

For me, I do not have a difference for OTB chess board and viewing the chess board on the computer.

I suggest just to continue viewing and analyzing on both a real chess board and computer chess board and you will eventually come to become very comfortable with both.

Also when I am playing a long standard game on the internet I will set up a real chess board on a table next to me so that I can get a view of the board on the computer screen and as if I was in a real tournament situation.

I prefer play on a real board, but I can run with either :D. I think people get worried because I always am staring at them and keeping a straight face while playing.

i find that i playt better on a real board. but what i tried was having the game on a board next to you doing the exact same on the computer so you have two bowrd, 1 computer, 1 beside you and just try to analyse the board on the one you feel most comfortable with. still looking at the one your more comfortable with but getting used to the other board.

Not sure if i properly explained thatSmile.
