problem with castling --help

about every other game i have a problem with castling it won't happen-- so in most cases i have to give up --  i have run the review -- but it doesn't explain why i can't castle -- is there a reason i can't castle thereby losing so many games ----i would have lost those game anyways but my goal to to get to move 30 in every game -- not to win that's a improbity and something i have come to accept - but just to get to move 30 would be a accomplishment for me any help

There are several circumstances where you can not castle:

1) If either your rook or king has moved

2) If you are in check, or castling would move your king through a square where it was checked, or if castling would put you in check

3) If there are still pieces in the way

4) Site technically if you are doing it the wrong way. You must click the king and then the target square.

Apologies for the terrible examples, but wanted to just demonstrate the basic principles without finding examples from my own games. If you're still confused, let me know and I will help happy.png

1st there can be no piece between the king & rook; second neither the king nor that rook can have move; third move the king two spaces and three rook will slip to the king’s other side. Remember you cannot castle out of check nor can you castle through check

i guess maybe i made a mistake or it only happens in tournament play -- also i don't know how to display one of my games --- an old dog is hard to teach new tricks too --i will just let it go and take the hit when it happens -- not a big issues since iam always now at 100 no points to lose

thanks for the help

If you know the username of your opponent or anything to do with the game in question it can be identified from that. As chess ambitions go, sorting out your castling woes should be a fairly easy goal to assist you with.

i have solved the problem --its me -- not seeing that dia bishops off in the corner prevent me from moving the king into a check postion so even though i wanted to castle i can't -- just another example of how stupid i am at playing this game -- but hanks for all the other help on this matter i read them all

Glad you solved it! Long range bishops are tricky. Keep playing, you’ll get there
