Hey that’s my secret!

The rare times I want a Kings Gambit game, face the Sicilian I’ll transpose to the Botvinnik System and coast  to a draw.

that's not really true because in the database white wins 29% of the time, and the draw is only 17%! and black wins 49% of the time. The stats are really terrible maybe you're thinking of different move order.

Those percentages are at the title level players. The Staunton-Cochrane can transpose to the English-Botvinnik System which is favourable for white and at worst a draw.

Notice whites piece set up?

At the intermediate level 1400-1700 where I am at, we can play anything and are allowed mistakes haha

Pretty much anything is a coin flip for the win.

Thank me for that

NiccolaTargaryen

it only become boring when GM Kasparov retires from competitive chess tournament. afterwards all high level tournament games are now heavily analyzed, guided by chess engine inspired drawish mainlines. most of  the experienced or veteran grandmasters have begun avoiding the sharp lines or heavily analyzed variations, instead they frequently prefer the lines suggested by top notch computer chess engines.

Open sicillian for white is fun and I understand it, I really don't get the sicillian for black, I don't get the "amazing" dragon bishop, my opponents just short castle and the Bishop ends up staring at nothing 🤣

Doesn't have to transpose tho, and even if that system got played, if the better player is with black they can still create problems if white rushes it or something

Kesarling_UT

I never liked the Sicilian.

chessisNOTez884

I’m not saying white is better. Just saying as an English player, we have the option to transpose and play a comfortable game without Sicilian theory.

The Sicilian is not necessarily a *boring* opening (defense, actually); more like an OVERUSED one (in answer to 1. e4). It also requires an enormous amount of opening theory knowledge to make it work (especially against good players).

.Sicilian becomes exciting at expert level play. You are by no means an expert so of course you wouldn’t understand the field of possibilities .

This is not the opening you are looking for.

I assume the argument is that only boring people pick boring openings, but like what if you’re just the average Spanish player going about your day, and your opponent plays the Berlin.

P1: “I’m just a Queen’s Gambit player! I enjoy when my opponent accepts the gambit so that I have a big space advantage!”

P2: “...”

P1: “no please”

P2: “...”

P2: “semi-slav”
