I play the puzzles. IDK really how they are scored. Sometimes I will solve the puzzle faster than the average time (or whatever the time is for the puzzle) and I get some points. Other times I make the wrong first move, and I get penalized way worse than scoring fast.
I've learned never to ask for a hint, because that immediately penalizes the puzzle. IDK why I continue to do them. The puzzle rating I have is 1600, and there is no way I'm a 1600 rated player.
It would be nice if at least the puzzles had an option of saying what the goal of the puzzle even is vs just what side you are playing. If it said "White mates in 2" I at least can sit and think.
IDK. It would just be nice to have different options for the puzzles. Otherwise, I think I'm tagging out of trying them. Seems like a waste of time and not much to keep me motivated in coming back to an unfair scoring system, or a scoring system that isn't readily shown.
You can train themes in unrated mode. Having them in rated would make puzzles a lot easier than they already are.
As to scoring, you'll always get at least 5 points if you get it completely right, regardless of how much time it takes to complete.
