Puzzles are soooo bad even with """hard""" difficulty

Everyone say the new puzzle system is completely broken but apparently it doesn't matter to anyone from chess.com. Their new weird ranking is abosultely useless and the usual ranking doesn't mean anything. I've gone from 2400 to 2700 in puzzles without thinking or improving because all the puzzles I have are 1200 max. You get +5 for solving them but -30 if you fail a single one, it's absurd. I don't have a subscription so I only play 3 puzzles a day and it's so useless and boring that I'm just clicking random moves without looking because solving the puzzle doesn't matter since there's no learning and no reward. People say "just change the difficulty" but I did and I just had a 900 puzzle to solve.

A 400 streak of M1 is useless, they give you a bonus in their new ranking thing for speed but no extra points on the actual value that matters. Am I supposed to beg for normal puzzles ? Or is it the desired user experience to make everything worse and worse ? Am I supposed to want to give money to be allowed to solve more useless puzzles ? How did anyone at chess-com validate this thinking it was an improvement... I thought chess was a cerebral game but apparently the biggest chess website has decided that the normal difficulty is just "me move queen me win" so maybe I was wrong.

I'm gonna put the cube in the square hole and the pyramid in the triangle hole, this will make my brain work more than anything on this website.

You just missed this 1042-rated puzzle. You have 3 ways to take on c5.

I think it is not a "just move your queen puzzle."

And you missed this one too, a 2055 rated puzzle:

This takes more work than the last one.

I see nothing wrong with either puzzle.

There are still some updates coming for the Puzzle system. Extra Hard will give you the highest average puzzle ratings in the selection. However, the puzzle ratings shown in the UI are not the ratings being used in the selection algorithm or rating process. All puzzles have been re-rated on the back end but the UI is still showing the old ones.

There's a good chance that final update is coming next week sometime.

And that's why reading is an important skill. Cause in the message you quoted there was the sentence "I'm just clicking random moves without looking because solving the puzzle doesn't matter". But you really wanted your clapback comment so you decided your time would be better spent researching puzzles I failed. Which I myself admitteed happens sometimes so... What a clapback indeed.

And giving me the rating of puzzles I didn't care to solve as an argument is useless since *you don't see the rating before solving them* so don't know that you're supposed to care. And 2000 vs 2700 is not the same thing anyway I wouldn't have cared any more even if I had known.

When a "moderator" decides that instead moderating they're gonna pick and choose parts of comments and waste their time looking for two measely counter-examples that are invalid to tell people that everything's in their head, it makes me wanna pay for a subscription even more because now I know that in addition to becoming worse and worse very day, criticism of the platform is well-received, and the people in charge of deciding who can say what read messages in their entirety and understand what is being said too.. I am reassured now. Puzzles are fine, moderation is fine.

It's also hilarious that to respond to the criticism "puzzle ratings are broken" a "moderator" decided to say "no look at these 2 puzzle ratings I found", one of them being the most extreme proof of my argument and the other being the most extreme proof that the "moderation" doesn't read anything and just cares about dismissing criticism of their beloved platform.

About 3 months ago the puzzle system that was already broken just got way worse! It's unbelievable how chess.com instead of improving things are just in fact getting a worse value for our money!

I believe they got the puzzles way easier as a way to fool their users to think that they are getting better, and doing their puzzles they will become a supreme tactician and that is far from the truth.

The rating system is completely broken, now I'm about to break 3000 rating and I'm just 1700 puzzle rated in serious sites. How come a 1000 rating puzzle gives you the same points as a 2500 puzzle? It doesn't make any sense.

The mafia/cabal doesn't want players to get better so they keep puzzles trivially easy. This is all to protect cheaters.

@Denny_McGee True, I already cancelled my Diamond subscription. The fact that they did this to puzzles was one of the major things. The other being that they completed stopped creating new content on the "Learn" section, specially now that they bought Chessable.

They want users to spend even more money now on learning content. Diamond sub is far from cheap. I will instead turn to Lichess and support them with a subscription there. At least they are promoting chess in a healthier way.

p.s: I just broke 3000 rating, lol

i play 3 puzzles a day too. really don't even try since it is pointless, so i blunder easily.

can't afford a membership but i doubt i'd buy one even if i could.

at l i c h e s s my streaks are up around 40, and the ratings there are more rational, so there's real incentive.

here i doubt my streaks have ever broken 10, and i don't care.

Because you are taking a very long time to solve both.

They still give you 5 points for a correct answer even if you take all day to solve a puzzle.

If you want more points, you have to solve problems faster.

I know that puzzle ratings are being changed now and it has resulted in some problems with getting served easy problems but you said the problems were reduced to a ridiculous "me move queen me win" state and I just pointed out that the two puzzles you missed were legitimately challenging.

If you think that one of those two puzzles proves your argument, then you don't understand either of them. Please take another look. I am not trolling.

Chess.com posted this in August:

We are currently working on a significant overhaul of our puzzle difficulty system and puzzle ratings. Over time, the current puzzle rating algorithm created highly inflated puzzle ratings for our members — and consequent inaccurate estimates of a puzzle difficulty.

As we roll out our new system, you may see some inconsistencies in your puzzle stats, and rating changes from puzzles solved and missed may be greater than in the past.

We ask you to wait with us just a bit longer! Since in the coming weeks we will be publishing an entirely new rating system for puzzles for all members. We’re confident it will be a major steps towards our ultimate goals:

- Provide a more meaningful rating which correlates more closely to player’s Blitz and Rapid ratings.

- Serve puzzles better suited for each player’s level.

- Offer options to member who are looking for different puzzle-solving experiences.

/ Obviously, it's October. Patience is required.
