I understand that you can’t castle through a check. I’m wondering if it is ok to do a queen side castle which is otherwise legal except that the opponent’s queen or bishop is aimed at the knight space which the rook will have to move through as part of the castle. The king won’t move into, through , or out of check. Thanks.

It's perfectly legal for the R to move through a controlled square when castling Q side.
If you like to attack on the king side you could try out the kings indian attack. In this opening you dont castle queenside, but usually you get a quick kingside attack.
