Hi. I've noticed a pattern among chess masters that they were playing since they were children, and I wanted to ask the following:

Those chess maters, are they good because:
1. They've been playing since they were kids, and learning chess through their development years
2. They've been playing chess for a long time in general

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, if you want to be a chess master is it crucial that you had to have been playing since you were a kid or just a long time in general

"1. They've been playing since they were kids" ++ Yes. That is also what Lazlo Polgar said.
"2. They've been playing chess for a long time in general" ++ No. Some of them are GM at age 15. Many having played for 20+ years do not even have any title.
