I have one specific question about a spefcific scenario that I am not understanding very well/
My opponent positioned his queen directly above my king and backed it with a rook, I moved the pawn directly in front of my king up one suare so that it would be flanked on either side by pawns which could take the queen and the rook if my opponent decided to attack, but when he dropped down and took the leading pawn leaving my king in check, I was unable to take the queen with either of the pawns and had to move the king out of the way, which ultimately cost me the game, can anyone help me to understand why my pawns were not allowed to capture my opponents queen?
I appreciate any insights here.
If you could find the game or if you could post the position you are referring to, that would be the most helpful. If I had to take a guess, at least one of the pawns may have been pinned by a bishop.
