Quick question on learning chess

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was any difference in studying with a board in front of you, or studying on the computer with a 2d board... like, if I practiced loads with a real board, would I still be playing at the same level on the computer (or vice-versa)?

Just wondering, 'cos I don't want to study on the computer if I won't (for whatever reason) be able to see those moves if it were a physical board, if you see what I mean. :)

Thanks!

Hello,

as for me it's veeery better to study with the board: so you make phisically the moves and it's easier to remember them (studying openings) or understand positions (in other cases). i've studied just with the computer for a long time before realizing that i've learnt nearly ... nothing!

Chess takes place in your mind. The board and computer screen are mere representations of what is there.

I don't see much difference between the leather (or vinyl, or wood) board with the wood pieces (or plastic) and the LCD (or plasma). They all have the same six pieces on 64 squares.
