Hello, here I am siging up for a tournament and as I have no rating yet, I am automaticly in the 1400- category. But what I want to know is this: it's in Canada, and I have no idea how the ratings work here compared to USCF, for example. What I would like to know - I tried to look but found nothing - is this: is there a way to know how much in USCF rating (because there is some people here with USCF ratings, so I can guess grossly in what range my rating could be in USCF) would 1400 in canadian rating be? I would be very thankful if anyone has a clue.

Usually ratings are all the same internationally, it doesn't matter where you play. 1400 is fair because it's right in the middle, lol and besides what does it matter if you haven't played a game yet for ranking. 1400 is pretty much 0 until you prove victory.

Alright, thank you, so it's pretty much the same take or give a few points.

ya pretty much. Usually people start with ratings of 1200 in US...don't know if that helps, but its still the same idea, fair rating until a game is played

I read somewhere that the USCF gradings were 200 points below FIDE's. So Kasparov say, would be 2600 in the states. Or would it be 3000? Food for thought.
