Why does 2351 have four digits and 692 has only three?
Because 2351 is a bigger number than 692.
I can’t tell if this is serious or not but you earn ratings via skill and the higher you go the bigger the number gets.

I'm serious. I'm new here and just play rapid in the Intermediate class and everyone one I play is three digit rated. A friend who plays here is ~1600 rapid and I know I can beat him (Not on here).
Has he played any rapid games? Some people start out in certain ratings because you can pick it when you open a new account and they never actually play any games.
I hadn't played for 40 years and joined here to become reacquainted and chose "Beginner." I quickly changed to "Intermediate" because I was getting rating points too easily and wasn't doing myself any good..
You'll find that ratings on this site aren't all that accurate, for a number of reasons.
I was around 2000 over-the-board (I've played in both FIDE-rated and CFC-rated events) and reached 2351 here.
Also, it's very common to be strong in one format (Rapid perhaps) but much weaker in another (maybe Bullet).
Why are some rapid ratings (like mine) three digits and some are four digits?
