I just beat a guy a hundred points ahead of me. It is supposed to be a rated game, but my rating has not increased. Any thoughts why this might happen? Is there any way I can ask chess.com to put on the points

Jimmykay

In your most recent victory, against Lucianyt, your rating increase 9 points. You went from 1422 to 1431.

Here's the official word, hope it answers your question:

Jimmy, I am not talking about live chess, I am talking about online chess. My game against focak he lost on time but my rating did not go up.baddigno I just checked what you said. This guy has timed out on his last 10 games.the cheek is he has just opened another game against me in a team match. What is the point? The guys a fruit cake. Should be kicked out

JamesColeman

Soulbrother, I believe that for online games, unlike in live chess, the game has to reach a certain move number for it to count for rating. I'm not entirely sure but I think maybe it's four moves for each side. I am pretty sure that was the reason the game was deemed unrated.

Soulbrother11

I think you could be right James, but it begs the question where can I find the rules.  The second point is that my oponnant seems to be opening a myriad of games, the simply timing out on all of them. why do this?  should be banned

Soulbrother11

check out this guys last ten games

please read baddogno's link, it will explain. if someone times out 5 times in a row, any subsequent time-out games become not-rated.

Hi jimmy, I got that and understand why points were not given, but I am asking two other questions now. Where on the site can I find all the regulations.baddognos link was a blog or a specific answer. Why is my opponent allowed to time out so many games without intervention. He times out more than he completes throughout his history

tomy_gun

you can beat virtual kasparov in disguise without winning a thing,

just remember that this is a forum for fun, not a professional one, neither a chess club

no one is going to be banned for losing.

On live chess if your opponent leaves you hanging for the rest of the time when they are losing you get a message saying they are breaking the fair play code and they will be monitored. Why is this different?

The_bruce

I have seen this behavior before.

http://www.chess.com/home/game_archive?member=maleyev (look his online games)

I acussed this guy of cheating in online games during a tournament, he just resigned the most of his online games in a few minutes.

I´m sure he is a cheater embarrassed for being caught. Some of them
usually do the same to lose ELO and avoid suspicions.

Soulbrother11

Thanks thebruce. Not sure why others think this is ok. I think it is cheating on a large scale. I now have to play him again in the tournament.

When your opponent does this in live chess, you kind of have to sit there, and wait him out.

In turn-based chess, it does no harm to you. It creates no inconvenience for you whatsoever.

Hi jimmy,

I can only speak personally, but whenever I start a game I do so with the intention of finishing it. It is disrespectful not to. Only a big emergency would prevent me finishing. This guy has about thirty timeouts in a row

Jimmykay

I take the same approach, soulbrother, but I do not let it affect me if someone else does not. Who knows...maybe had had an emergency, maybe he died, maybe he is sandbagging his rating. I do not let it get to me, that is all. There is no reason for chess.com to PUNISH this behavior because it hurts no one.

Soulbrother11

Ok jimmy

Take care
