Nah the issue is that the chess community seems to be unaware that the thing which carlsen is doing has happened hundreds of times before in esports.
Don't just look in a void. The question is not how much carlsen earns with his other avenues, the question is how much does he lose out on when he is preparing for his title match, apparently he deemed that he is losing out more than he is earning and therefore he decided to forfeit his title.

I don't know what you guys are fighting about, but it's annoying to me you claimed Carlsen said things, and then you admit that maybe you made it up.
I will be honest here . There are pages out there on social media who have been consistently giving us correct updates , and I took this information from one such page . I should have been a bit more aware and shouldn't have termed it as official update rather than verifying it myself .
But that's completely irrelevant to the point I am trying to raise here
