Reamtches and Bad Manners

I don't owe anybody a single fk and nobody should owe me one  no matter how hard they want my fk they won't get it on the principles of "morals" because that is subjective. There are no social norms in chess.

tldr get what you get; don't get upset.

Decency is subjective. Ethics are subjective. The only thing not subjective is the tos. If its not against the tos, nothing else matters. In the end, socially created ideas of "polite" are mere figments. You don't owe anyone anything and nobody should ever owe you anything.

I will state my point of view clearly:

People come here to play single games, not matches. I do not believe it is a moral obligation to accept any rematch offer given randomly. A moral obligation would be a question of human decency, and to say that someone has less of said decency for simply not wanting to play the same person twice in a row, I think, is ridiculous. I do, however, think keeping most promises is a moral obligation. If you promised someone a rematch, then declined the rematch offer, I do believe that to be rude.

If any offense was taken from my post, I apologize.

I disagree with your point, but in respect of the next one where you asked for us to stop I will not continue arguing, it has been extended more than it should. I also say that if any offense was taken from any of my posts I apologize.

If you did a google search you would find out. I will be the great search engine for you. tldr - too long didn't read.

Side Note: Every single argument made in this post was just about how "polite" or "good manners" should a person be. This is subjective to literally every single person. Each person's definition will be different. No point in bothering with "morals". If you think other people owe you anything based on your idea of politeness you are extremely lacking in the mental area.

ok well i'll sum it up for you

the argument got pretty much nowhere until they apologized and now everything's good for the most part

Thank you. I mainly posted this because I had wanted to state my point like this earlier, rather than wanting to start more controversy. At least there's one forum where people want to settle disputes peacefully. Haven't seen another forum where the people on it decided to stop arguing that I remember, sadly. Good night everyone! happy.png

if people ask for a rematch, don't just leave and go to the next game. Accept the rematch, it's pretty rude if you don't

What if you have to leave tho?

You don't determine the definition of "rude".

All you can do is decide what seems rude to YOU.

That's only binding on YOU... not on anyone else.

Gaining rating on a one match (in a game where you should at least play as each color) and then ignoring the rematch is not rude? Well, in any other instance that would be considered rude, so yes, I will say its rude, not just for me. For example in football you play a home match and an away match, if someone would refuse an away match it would literally be worse than 'just rude'.

And in some other sports you don't get rematches. But, this is not football and this is not some other sport.

There are many chess tournaments where you play 1 person once with random color. You either get white or you get black, then you play another person and you either play white or black and you play games like that until the tournament is over.

I, for instance, play either 60|0 or 45|45 time format. It is not easy to play 2 such games in a row, and people have other things to do.  In any case, nobody owes anyone a rematch.

If someone's ego can't handle playing with random color without rematches, perhaps they should look for another hobby. Chess is obviously doing more harm than good in their case.

Are there OFFICIAL chess tournaments where you play with a random color without rematches? If there are they are garbage tournaments.

So you pretty much know very little about chess tournaments, and you call that which you don't know garbage.  There is entire format of such tournaments, it is not just a single event. Here you go:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament

Not only that, but those are official tournaments. Here we have pretty much casual play with much less on the line.

What do you expect from a 1300 rated idiot ?

This should conclude the argument

A lot of words here for something that ain’t happening.

I play a game, I review, and try hard to overcome the urge to play another one later that day because I think blitz is not good for my chess. So far I am moderately successful. 1 game, 2 maybe. Once I broke down and played 5 or 6 in one day. I don’t want to do that again. Bad for my chess.
Avatar of Ubik42
Really I want to do zero blitz games. I held to that standard for a couple months after restarting my account.

Blitz is so bad, at least for me. Maybe not anyone else idk. But bad for me. And don’t get me started on bullet.

Anyone else been accused of cheating? meh.png I may not be a chess wizard, but I have been studying it for a while. I just made an account today so I didn't have to bust out the chess table. bn.png Its a pretty nice site.

That's because the teams in football agreed to playing the "rematch" before the first game. Sure, if somebody says they will play a rematch before the first game then it would be slightly rude if they don't play it for no reason. But there is no rule that once you search for a match that it is implied you will have to agree to a second

Many times things that are a distraction can make you loose the game.
My dog comes to my room some days ago. And I lost my attention, I lost a game, so I asked for a remach and won.
In my opinion this seems to be more psychological than other thing.

Everytime I beat someone, once, I make a point of remembering their names and crowing to everyone how I beat JoeyBanana123 last week, NoobMaster2000 last month, and KillerTomatoMan last year.

Just kidding. I forget the name of who I played 5 minutes later.

Why is this such an ego thing lol.
Avatar of DerekDHarvey

If you want two games then join a team and play in a match.
