Remote Chess Study

Hi, I just landed an internship which will require me to spend march through june in a remote location with little to no internet. I will have a macbook with me for most of the time.

I have not been playing much chess the last year but am looking to get back into it. I would like to avoid picking up bad habits as i pick the game up again. Does anyone have any incite on the best way to study chess alone and with out access to the internet. I am thinking of picking up hiarcs to use as a database, opponitent, and training tool (guess the move mostly)

Can anyone reccomend any good tactic books/programs for mac that do not require internet.

does anyone have any tips they use for individual study?

I myself wouldn't leave home without Kasparov predecessors and modern chess books. it's an intensive look at chess history and I would say I learned more from those books than any other thing.

I don't know of any Mac software, but if you can afford it, buy Parallels and a Windows 7 license and then you will have almost unlimited options (Chessbase DVDs, databases, etc).

Interesting. Can you give an example of what you learned from the Kasparov series?
