Resignation

Why must somebody resign? Can't they just play to the very end and show good sportsmanship?

And on that same regard, if they resign, could you get extra points? It's not that easy to make somebody resign. Not only do you win the game (in which the points decrease every time your rating goes higher. I wonder why?), but you have done so well that you baffled the opponent, or you know you can give checkmate within a matter of moves. Can you just get 5 extra points for the effort?

I know it's not much to ask for, but I'm being humble. If you want more, fix the issue with the one message. Link shown here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/1-message

Why be so lazy as to submit a ticket? Because I don't want to reveal anything about myself, that's why.

Thank you for reading!!!

Also for auto-aborting the game. Give one point for that.

It's rude to leave a game right when you begun. You prepare for a game, so you play the game.

Thank you @DeirdreSkye ! That seems like a wonderful idea.

There's nothing wrong with admitting that your position is beyond hopeless that it makes no sense to continue playing on as in you're in a completely losing situation where it's a serious material disadvantage such as you have a Knight and one pawn against someone who has a Queen, Rook, Bishop and two or three pawns. Resignation is admitting defeat. Why play on to get checkmated?

Resignation makes sense only after you're good enough to not play random moves.

If you and your opponent play random moves, then anything can happen, and you shouldn't resign.

Can you just get extra points!?

Many 1300 rated players don't know how to checkmate with a king and queen. I think I'll start playing out to checkmate it they only have one pawn.

FM_Checkmate

I know how to mate with the king and queen, and I just hit a bit over 1200 yesterday!

I play losing positions until there's no realistic chance my opponent will blunder and let me back in the game.  After that, it's a waste of my time and their's to continue and I resign.  If I played every game to its bitter end,  the game might go one for another 20-30 moves, each one a drag on the losing player.

I guess you have a point...

But chess.com owes me a lot of money! Pay up!

If someone does not know how to finish an endgame, and you know it well enough to bate them into a stalemate, then they don't deserve the points. I often resign if they have many pawns. One opponent who was a rook up just started marching pawns. I'm pretty sure they can mate with 2 queens. On the other hand, if you just want to practice your opening and middle game, then resign early so you can get to the next game.
