Resignation avoidance

I am relatively new to Chess.com but have been quite surprised by the number of players who seemingly are not able or willing to resign when the match is clearly lost i.e. When forcing checkmate is unavoidable. These players prefer to let the clock run down and/or eventually abandon. What is wrong with these time wasters?
Does anyone else face this situation?

NEVER RESIGN!!

Etiquette and rules are different things.

If the word etiquette is new to the reader, I am not surprised, as it went out with the passing of the millenium.

Interesting set of responses....

THESE KIDS TODAY HAVE NO RESPECT!

(and, yes, it's true that the same exact lament has been voiced for hundreds of years, spoken by the elders of each and every passing generation, but now it's for real!)

You seem to think that your opponent should make moves when you think they should make them rather than when they think they should make them. Perhaps you also think your opponent makes the wrong moves and is spoiling the game by not playing the 'proper' lines (believe it or not there was such a post earlier this week).

The fact is that your opponent can move what they like and when they like as long as they are within the rules of the game. If you do not like this you probably should find another game to play.

Indeed. I wish we had more threads about this.

Why not?

Corum,
Your assumption is incorrect.

One example today
Opponent has king on A8, pawns on A7 and B7, and rook on E8
I have queen on C8 for check and rook on C1
No other pieces had access to C8
Around 5 mins on the clock

The opponent had ONLY one move after which I checkmate. Instead we waste many minutes before abandonment.
Sorry but that seems pointless for all concerned.

GLT001 you are mistaken.

have you considered Ka9? That would be a fine escape.

You're bothered by 5 minutes?  How about a 3 day/move game with an obvious, forced mate in 3 where I had Q, R, and K against K - where my opponent decided to play it out to the end?
