Running down the clock

As a beginner with a low score rating I do get the fact that as beginner against beginner we don’t always resign early between us because quite often mistakes are made and i have often managed to get a draw from an almost impossible position but why when you are one move from checkmate do some players go off on a sulk and run the clock down. Does your score drop less if you do this ? Or what is it ? Everybody loses at some point. It’s all part of it. It’s just when you have 24 hours or days on the clock do do it seems a strange thing to do.

If it's one move from CM, premove the CM (where possible) and report them for stalling.
