I've been playing chess with people from all over the world. But I've never seen anyone from Russia. They are the strongest players in the world. Can't they play on this site?

Yes, they can play in the site but their internet providers may block parts of the site.

They are here. Get them on my table all the time. Should be a way to block this don't know what to call them by their flag to avoid them coming to my table.

Chess.com blocked the use of the Russian flag in a few months before you joined. You may have played Russians without realizing it.

Sorry about the misspelling of participation. So I might have played someone from Russia with a flag showing international. Thanks for the answer.

A couple of quick ways to see if you have played anyone from Russia is to check your Passports or use Insights and the country list at the bottom for each pool (assuming they have Russia as their location)

They're not that great, I always thought Russians would be better, I'd say Dutch are the new Russians very hard to beat

Virtue signaling led to banishment of the RU flag. A popular sport in some circles

Once you go out on this limb, it's hard to climb down. Maybe they should just wait until no one is looking and unban the flag. As much as I support Ukraine in their current situation, I really can't stand empty symbolic gestures.

I think chess.com blocking Russians is a bit much. And frankly, sad.
I understand their reasoning, and may have done the same under different circumstances.
But the people playing chess are not the people fighting, usually. If they are sitting down to a game of chess, they are not gunning down soldiers.
And blocking those people doesn't do anything except tell them that they are no longer appreciated in the world. That kind of stuff embitters communities and drives people towards the mindset of wanting or tolerating war.
I hope someone here understands this.

Thank you.

Thank You. The pendulum always has a tendency to swing back. Then some people will be ashamed...

It's Russian government that blocks the internet with the outside world and starting in September, Russian government will ban use of VPN for Russians too, so no Russians will be playing here unless they live outside of Russia or break Russian law. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, that's what I've heard.
