sacrifice usually is awarded a brilliancy

But I played a game yesterday and sscrificed my queen to have the chance to check mate an opponent ; he fell for the bait and took my queen. So I checkmated him and recieved no bbrilliancy... go figure??

Brilliancies are moves that sacrifice material or allow material to be captured. They have to be good or best, are influenced by ratings, and if you're completely winning without the sacrifice, it's not usually considered brilliant, though could be for a lower rated player.
