Sandbagging is deliberately losing. It may be in order to drive down a rating to qualify for a tournament restricted to players under a certain rating.

Sometimes you will see someone lose many very short (< 10 moves) games in a row.

People can be reported for sandbagging. (Use the report button or send an email to support@chess.com.)

Sand fleas can be irritating when you want to enjoy a day at the beach.

Sand bags can be used to hold things down, or more often hold flood waters back. They have become a metaphor for people who hold their rating down on purpose, usually for some perceived gain in the future.

Sandbags tend to be much larger than sandbugs.

I thought the sandbags referred to a  handheld bag of sand used to knock the unsuspecting winner out when he took off with his winnings.

That's another use. There are also games that involve throwing small sandbags, and they are useful at the gun range.
