SCID vs PC

Hey Steve. It just occurred to me that I installed the software on WIndows 7 before, for the first time, and didn't have this problem. So I guess I'm not sure what you mean about the config files not copying over.

thanks.

I just mean, our windows' installer does not attempt to keep any of the users old settings. Sorry, but all three of Scid's main devs (~ Shane and Pascal) have been mainly Linux people.

Anyway - thanks Gorgonian and Ed for your online stuff. I finally got around to linking to your pages in the program and online doco.

BTW, i think the spelling and ratings resources are now unmaintained :(

(it was previously here http://linweb.ris.at/~nagl/)

Perhaps someone could contact Franz, and/or take it over themselves ?

Franz was last at: franz.nagl(.nospam) at ris.at

Thanks. I don't think that is the issue. It seems unable, for some reason, to create a settings file. It was doing so with no problem before.

Can you think of some reason it might not be saving its settings file?

stevenaaus

The only idea i have is perhaps you have installed it /Program Files ? Where Windows7 does stupid things about mirroring config files transparently.

The default install directory is "c:/Scid vs PC" or something.  Otherwise it may be some permissions issue.

Just a warning: Avoid SCID 4.13... it has enough annoying bugs that I'm going to go back to the prior version. Things like my game list jumping around when i witch tabs to the comment editor's displaying the board in the orientation I am viewing but any drawings I do assume a white-at-the-bottom view causing some really interesting results. A few other smaller bugs.

I'm sure they'll have it fixed soon, but until then, don't upgrade :)

stevenaaus

Fixing that comment board gave me some headaches, laugh. (Should be fixed in subversion).

https://sourceforge.net/p/scidvspc/code/2169/

I havent' noticed any bugs in the gamelist. It *does* try to remember the gamelist "view" for each database.

kleelof

My issue disappeared it seems.

Is there a way to have multiple boards? WHen I do searches, my current work board gets overwritten by games in the search.

I'm apparently really stupid. I found the piece sets for SvP on the sourceforge page. But where do I put them to install?

Using version 4.13

Does anyone know if you can reorder or choose columns in the game list panel? I'd like the round to be one of the first columns instead of near the end.

stevenaaus

Change the order of "set glistFields ....." in scid.gui (or tcl/windows/gamelist.tcl)

I might look at making this easier to do.

What happens when you click 'Apply' from the comments window? Does it actually save the PGN?

kleelof

Also, and sorry if I missed the answer, is there a way to view more than 1 game at a time?

Not that I'm aware of, but you could always just open up a second copy of the program and few the second game this way.  I tried it and it works fine.  Right now I have two copies of the program up, and I'm analyzing two different games at the same time, with two different engines.

kleelof

Thanks Ed.

By now I'm sure you've tested this for yourself, and discovered that no, it does not.  You have to click FILE and then SAVE PGN to save it.
