it doesnt support cbh file extensions? ? !!
That doesn't bother me. cbh is a proprietary format, and Chessbase users can always convert their databases to pgn files if they want to do that.
it neither can open big pgn files also if i remember right !

If you like Chessbase so much, why are you trying to use Scid vs. PC? Do you understand what the term "proprietary" means? It means that Chessbase doesn't give its competitors the information that they would need to allow their software to work with the cbh database format. So if you don't like the fact that Scid vs. PC doesn't support the cbh format, I'd suggest that you take up that issue with the Chessbase company, not the Scid vs. PC developer.
Anyway, how many games are in a "big" pgn file? I just opened a 4.4 million game pgn file with Scid vs. PC without any problems. You can also convert a large PGN file to Scid format before opening it in Scid vs. PC.
Yeah, not real intuitive, but in the latest 4.24, right click the database switcher -> More -> Use custom font. Then alter the small font size from Options -> Fonts

It worked nicely, thanks. Something to add to the help manual:
"Fonts
Scid has four basic fonts; Regular, Menu, Small and Fixed, which can be customized via the Options->Fonts menus.
Many windows can quickly resize fonts by using Control+WheelMouse.
The Fixed font is used by the Tree and Crosstable windows, and requires a fixed-width font to make text allign nicely. "
Ok, cheers.
We've reissued / changed the 4.24 windows and src downloads just today. Just a couple of minor bugs which i didn't want hanging around until the next release in another couple of years. (Ratings MAX YEAR was broke, which affected the ratings graphs (from ratings.ssp) and probably adding ratings too. And the blunder threshold spinbox had a broken error checker.)
Is there any way to batch edit data in a scid database usnig scidvspc?
I downloaded the TCEC games and they have dates in them but not 'event date' which is a separate field in my database. I can flter all the TCEC games in say 2020, but is there any way I can then edit the event date for all in one go?
This is newer, powerful/destructive! feature, but yes one can batch add EventDates.
Tools->Maintenance->NameEditor
Select EventDate.
Select GamesToEdit->"Filter Games"
Double check you know exactly what you are doing, and read the help topic in case there is something i have overlooked.

Hello,
I have two problems with "SCID vs PC" v4.21. Please help me. My OS is Ubuntu.
1. Sounds. I downloaded sounds archive, unpacked it and selected the correct folder. Now when I move the pieces, I get the error message "Could not open default for write.
while executing
"$sound play -blocking 0 -command "incr ::utils:ound::isPlayingSound -1""
(procedure "::utils:ound:
laySoundQueue" line 9)
invoked from within
"::utils:ound:
laySoundQueue"
("after" script)"
2. Arrows. I don't see the arrows after I move the pieces even though I selected "Moves -> Show variation errors" option. Also I selected "Moves -> Highlight last move -> Show" with no effect.
Thank you!
Can someone explain me what the "tree mask" function does?
Can it be useful for creating opening repertoires?
I like the book merging options of polyglot.
I would like to do something similar directly with pgn files or with Schid files.

> 2. Arrows. I don't see the arrows after I move the pieces
No... The board gets overloaded with arrows, dunnit ScidvsPC has no previous move "Arrows". Only variation arrows, and user drawable arrows. The engine mini boards can have move arrows too.
Some new features in subversion recently. The game browser/preview boards now display (non-score related) comments too. And i've added a bulk "add extra tag" feature. Please test with caution... very easy way add/overwrite junk to the game file. Feature still needs some work re progressbars.
Hello! When analyzing a position with an engine, while showing "Engine Info", what is the meaning of "52" in the info: "Depth: 38/52"?
Or the "9" here:
And the "245"? Is it needed to go 245 moves deep to find a mat in 4? To find a mat in 4 is enough to go 4 moves deep, or not?
These are general questions about UCI engines, not specific to ScidvsPC. 245/9 is depth/seldepth
https://github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish/wiki/Terminology#selective-depth
NB ScidvsPC does not update the history widget if there is no change to the PV line.
