Searching for a 1900+ chess coach!

Hello,

I am a chess coach and in real life I am currently rated 1902, does that meet your request?

I'm willing to help you, however a warning in advance. You are not going to rise from 1300 to 1900 in a few hours. It takes lots and lots off hard work en time.

You may keep your money. We will do it Godfather-style. Cool

If you are interested just start a game with me.

If you are not able to offer a significant amount of money, better don't offer any, ask for volunteer coaches. I think you might find some reasonably strong players who will give you a few lessons for free.

Will you give me a couple of voluntary lessons?

I think you can look for me in Live Chess, and we can play some longer games unrated and I will give you some advice during and after the game.

I offer $12.47 - that's 9 big fat euros to those across the pond - for every 100 Elo points.

Natalia might get 10 euros . . .

That's a generous offer, but I have already found a coach now, thanks to Chess.com's fantastic members!

Natalia's just a level above you isn't she? Smile

Hello.  I would second the idea of getting a membership here.  Try a one month diamond membership ($12.99USD).  Look into the Chess Mentor, video lessons, tactics trainer, and computer workout.  Spend the energy you have to really explore and use the tools that this site offers.  After your one month, you should have a good idea if you would care to continue or not.  And, after that one month, I am sure you will have an even better grasp of things and may even discover which areas you would like to concentrate future learning on!

I wish you success in your learning, and fun in your chess!

Cordially,

William

Thanks! Your rating is pretty equal to mine, should we grab a game? I

No, you misunderstood the point. He was supposed to coach me to 1900 Smile

If you are really serious here is what worked for me - I went from 1680 USCF to 2086 in about two years. I've slipped a bit since then but I don't play too seriously any more.  It was really pretty simple.

First don't worry too much about openings.  Get a couple of repertoire books and play from them.

Next study tactics day and night.  Do all those tactical puzzles and exercises.  Repetition is the key.  It doesn't matter how well you "understand" the game if you miss the two move shot that wins your rook.

Play some gambits.  It will be scary at first but you will learn to use those extra tempos and space.

And yes, read a few general books about strategy and basic endgames.  Silman's Complete Endgame Course is a great book in my opinion.

And oh yes - you have to play in real tournaments...Wink

Sorry it isn't more complicated...

Hello!

Of course, 8$ per 100 elo points, can not be a deal. Most coaches gives lessons (example weekly lessons, and then some 'homework' usually 1-2 hours / week). I believe a coach 1900 fide elo, should be payed about 10$ per lesson. From 1300 - 1900 will take at least two year, and that will take much more than 2h a week. You will also have to play OTB tournements, and i think its best with a OTB coach also. I can se your from Denmark to, so here there is invitations to OTB tournements.

I really didn't have any knowledge whatsoever what a coach should be paid. It was a draft from the start, of course a negotiable one. Later I went on to say it should be taken as a kind gesture, for a players help if he would coach me.

So that's already sorted.

Thanks for the tournament link!

Yeah, I understood that but maybe you missed my point. I believe that your offer is economicaly interesting for any prospective coach only if you make such a fast progress that it's only possible if someone stronger looses you on purposeWink.

Seriously, even if we are only talking about chess.com ratings and not real ELO the difference between 1900 and beginner is quite big and making that leap takes some time even from a dedicated student of the game.

Yeah, it will. I am very dedicated though, so I cannot imagine staying in the 1300s for long.

Oh, I'm sure you can achieve 1900 and more if you work hard and purposefully. Just be warned that making significant progress in chess may take years rather than months. Of course at the begining progress can be made faster (for example going from 1300 to 1700 is probably easier than going from 1700 to 1900).

mkchan2951

you're right going from 1700 to 1900 is much tougher but people are able to handle the game well enough if the opening is right nearly everyone makes inaccuracies right there, and in a strategic battle tactical mistakes are rarer than positional ones and strategy is what comes in the nimzo principles (but don't think they always stand). there are like i said sets of principles different one is applicable in different situations. I suggest you don't take up the ruy lopez or if you do take the exchange variation. Take tactical openings and gambits like bigdoug said it's a really good suggestion.

Well , I cant be a coach!

I did the former achievement in a year. How long will it take me to complete the latter achievement? I am approximately 1700 now.

I don't know and anyway it depend on the person. Maybe someone who has recently made that leap can better answer.
