I was wondering how do World Chess Champions choose their seconds?

WalangAlam

Just recently Carlsen confirmed Kasparov's help in his prep against Anand.

Carlsen's disqualified because he's not World Champion - yet!

Seems from Carlsen's camp that they are mixing it, pal and 3rd best in Norway, Jon Ludvig Hammer, is part of the team, though he may not be quite good enough at this level, he probably offers other qualities needed when locked up in training camp. Seems Carlsen wants a team that complements each other, not just over the chess board, which seems to make sense. Heine Nielsen has helped him before, but not now as he has assisted Anand in the past. If Kasparov is a part of the Carlsen team, my guess is that they want someone who has played these matches before, as they psychologically are probably completely different to anything Carlsen has ever done in chess.

Nice to hear from you Oleppedersen! Yes this is Carlsen's first World Championship Match and not only does Kasparov have the experience He had also beaten Anand before. Although that was a long time ago, I wonder will Carlsen bring out the Sicilian Dragon.

Didn't know that Kasparov is helping Carlsen. Thanks for the information.

I remember that in Gelfand v Anand atch Kasparov offered to help Gelfand but Gelfand rejected it 'cause Kasparov in past helped Anand and  Gelfand found it unethical to take help from Kasparov for same reasons.

Anand is known for his preperations and I am sure he would be well prepared too. It should be cracker of the match and it would be good for Chess.

Thanks king_nothing1 I'm sure it would be good for chess!

Anand announced before the match started that Peter Leko is one of his seconds I wonder what will his contributions be in this series. Anand needs a win, and it seems Carlsen is using the Ruy Lopez Berlin Wall to get the draw when he is black.
