i'd argue the other way around.....
sensitivity

We know how to handle pressure, how to refute attacks. We don't hesitate to crush our opponents. Life's good.

I agree, I believe it is the other way around. To be good at chess, you have to learn to criticize yourself and take criticism from other people.
I would say that in general they are not sensitive. This is based on the fact that in general players don't like to use the chat feature next to the chess board. They want to focus on the game. The game takes priority over other factors.

What?
Artists, actors musicians are more sensitive!
That's just a myth. My maws really sensitive and has no creative ability what so ever. Also, just because someone is not creative it does not mean that they can not tune into somethng subtle.
I'm a non-creative and that's really hurt my feelings!
I'll tell you who the most sensitive people are, failed artistic types :)
That's what art critics are, people that wanted to be artists but did not have the ability!

Going by the sort of kibitzing that I see at clubs, I would have to agree that they are less sensitive then their fellow man.

I think Chess players are good at picking up subtle things in conversation or life in general, so in that respect we could be considered sensitive.
With regards to the common perception of the word sensitive I'd have to say no. On the Chessboard I am a black hearted monster. Give me an inch and I'll take whatever you have.
each chess player is different. same with musicians, actors, painters, artists. would you call kid rock sensitive?
this conversation has no future.

I'd say the opposite:chess players are thick-skinned.even after many defeats,a chess player doesn't stay down and keeps comin for more.
Would you say that chess players are more sensitive (like artists ie musicians/ painters/actors) than the population in general?
