Shion no ou

I did a quick search and I couldn't find a topic on this anime. For does who don't know what Shion no ou is(which is probably most of you), it's an anime and manga about a teen Shogi(Japanese chess) protegy that is trying to become the top Shogi player in Japan, mean while dealing with a serial killer that murder her parents in front of her when she was young. Shogi is the key to solving the murder and saving her own life.

What really makes this anime great and unique is that it really does capture chess better than any movie or TV series that I've ever seen. Far better than Searching for Bobby Fischer for example. The Shogi matches are played out in great detail, with just enough exposition to not loose someone who has never played chess or Shogi. Every major move shown and explained in detail with insight from the characters that are playing. You probably couldn't learn to play Shogi from watching this anime, but it would teach you the basics and give you a good idea of what you need to know in order to become a good Shogi player. The matches themselves aren't your usual Hollywood chess matches either, they involve real world strategies that I can appreciate now that I've learning chess. Granted that I'm learning international chess and not Shogi, but the games are similar enough that I can appreciate a good strategy when I see it.

I fell in love with chess with this anime, and I'm other will also. If you are an anime fan, or you want to respark your love for chess, or show someone exciting and beautiful chess can be then you should defiantly check out this anime.

Yes, I am just starting to watch this on the Internet...I'm up to episode 6...and it is very good.  The detailed shogi games are well integrated into the whole (and rather complex) story.  I also understand there is manga/anime series about i-go as well.
