should I keep playing even though I suck...

I would say ask yourself: are you having fun? If so, why not keep at it? Have you learned and practiced basic concepts? If not then why not give that a try? If you don't enjoy it or feel that your efforts are not paying off, you can consider another hobby. But don't quit because you think you are "bad", because in my experience everyone feels like that.

It bothers me when i loose. Im good at alot of things. Ive done very well for a high school drop out but this game guts me.

Well one thing about chess is that pretty much everyone can say they have TONS of room to improve To put it in some perspective, a GM might be something like 2500 rapid on here. Even being like 1700 rapid puts you in something like the top 1% of players here, which means most players are far, far away from titled level.
The nature of the game is that you will face a lot of failure and maybe frustration. It generally takes time to get good at chess. I've been playing for like a bit over a year and still something like intermediate level, and I don't think I have below average progress. So I would say try not to be too bothered by that, and see if you still enjoy it regardless.

I'm pretty good at developing the opening and I'm pretty good at trying to protect all my pieces and make sure everything's covered but once I start to get attacked I get very confused about exchanging and where I should be attacking. I do have a calculating deficiency. I always seem to wind up being the one down in the exchange.
