should I use the players league to gauge if I'm improving?

Hey y'all. I'm part of the recent wave of chess players and have decided to make this a hobby of mine. (I mainly play rapid for context). To stay engaged I am using the players league to gauge if I'm improving or not.  The reason I'm starting to think this might be a bad idea is my games tend to have a two result out come. I win the game is because they blunder their queen within the first two or three minutes OR I lose in spectacular fashion and got railed the entire time. This bothers me because I feel like I'm not covering the holes that exist in my mid and end game (mainly how and when to be aggressive or defensive and recognizing possible checkmates) . If I get to higher leagues would this go away? Should I try and use different metrics for gauging improvement?

Players League promoting only reflects the amount of games played, not strength or improvement.
