Stuff Non-Chess Players Say

I'm having another one of those pathetic Tactics Trainer days on chesstempo; hense the new dent in my helmet.

I don't know why I did so poorly. I must have gotten distracted. Why is the seat of my pants wet?

akafett

There I am; the butt of my own joke.

EDB123

again? you just did that last week.

akafett

At least I'm consistent.

Which part, performance on tactics trainer or wet pants? LOL.

dragonair234

I stopped tactics trainer a couple months back. Too frustrating! I'd rather be working on openings/middle game/endings, strategies, etc.. Not just figuring out strict step by step puzzles (tactics). But that's just how I feel. If I ever started to actually study chess then I know tactics training is not optional. lol

LOL! I love it! That was good.

To answer your question; the performance part. I'll do really well and the next day, BAAMMM!, I crash and burn. I seem to play better than I do at TT. That seems backwards to me. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

And I almost didn't recognize you with the new avatar.

EDB123

It shouldnt.

akafett

@ EDB123: You're saying that one should play better than one's performance on Tactics Trainer?

EDB123

precisely.

... and then there are the comments about "en passant" LOL

EDB123

some guy thought castling meant switching the king and the rook's places and that you could do it any time.

akafett

@ EDB123: I was told by others that it was the opposite. Maybe they are really bad at chess and want to make themselves feel better. :)

thecentipede

this it the perfect scene! :D

I don't get why you can't castle when in check?

yep. UndecidedTongue Out

@ Brumtown: It has to do with the ballance of the game. The point of allowing one to castle is for the one to know when to castle. If castling out of check or through check was allowed, then there would be no strategic checking of the King to deny castling rights.

For every rule in chess, there is an advantage and a disadvantage. The disadvantage to the castling rule is that you can't 0-0 or 0-0-0 through or out of check or if either castling pieces have been moved. This ballances the great advantage of being able to castle to begin with.

Understandable, since it is one of the two most misunderstood rules of chess.
