Stuff Non-Chess Players Say

Want a rematch?

Dovageris

Lol, all of you 'chess players' are sounding very pretentious. I started playing like a month or two ago, and I never asked those questions. Maybe those asking are just curious? Maybe once they learn, they'll be better than you in a week? Chess has so much ego, it's really sad to see over 200 pages of bashing on those who don't play chess. You're not smart just because you can play chess; your egos have no foundation.

Who's this guy?

OrganicVegetables

I don't know, but do you want a rematch?

Someone who doesn't need 400+ games to achieve a sub 1200 elo. :O

Yes, sometimes pride can get in the way. But most of us are pointing out observations we've seen from non-chess players. Then after observations come personal opinions which we may not all agree with. But the observations are still valid and interesting topics of conversation. Some people here have suggested ways to help non-chess players better understand chess. Do you have any suggestions? Smile

"Please be relevant, helpful, and nice!" Let's not attack other people (Post #4507). If you have a different opinion, simply share it and we'd all love to discuss. Or you can send a message.

I knew the day would come when our beloved thread would be infiltrated by a troll. Ignore this guy, he is trolling.

Yes, this is true to a certain extent, since in playing chess it is advantageous to adopt a 'take no prisoners' attitude and be ruthless against the opponent to win. Dovageris, most who have played the game for a long time have encountered some people who aren't well versed in the rules or the etiquette of chess. What I think is worse is when some people who DO play chess regularly skew the rules or don't know the details of en passant, castling or pawn promotion. Or they claim superiority when clearly they are beginners. It's just that some of the things they say are curious, interesting or funny. So this forum brings out a few of those instances. I don't believe everybody is trying to bash new chess players.

Firstly, I'm not a troll despite the tenaciously stated general sentiment in this thread. Secondly, as I was a 'non-chess' player and still consider myself a 'non-chess' player, I joined this site to improve as again, I've only been playing 2-3 months and have absolutely no idea on what typical book moves are, and possible variations. I thought the forums here would be accommodating to begineers like me. I come to find that not only are there threads like this in the mix, but there's also people on this thread who're worse than average begineers still bashing on those who don't know how to play. You could see how this would piss me off.. Although my comment was mean I guess

Wow. It's been 3 days since I last posted. Must have been the turkey. And I played NO chess over this holiday as I did last year. Needless to say, I was bored.

Yay! I'm glad there's someone here who also thinks 5 games is too many! I see people play crazzzzy amounts of games. To each his/her own, but for me, I would be unhappy. Haha. So yeah. >5 games at one time -- yay.

And about your avatar... after zooming in 300% to read it... lol... I think it's interesting! I like the front view the best. Yeah I know what you might be thinking (*insert joke here*). It kinda looks like a homemade diagram. Did you make it? But then again it says NASA. And nice membership there!
