Stuff Non-Chess Players Say

Wait...I'm going to pause and imagine dragon's reaction!
NVM! THE VIRUS! IT CHASETH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RUNETH FROM THY FIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck! Try not to flirt with him too much at the poolside ;D
You don't need to worry about me flirting with guys. Anyway, the dude didn't show.
But I did get to play 10 games. Sounds good, right? My opponents were ALL non-chessers. Three of them kept trying to move a pawn sideways, one thought checkmate could be answered with a checking move, and none of them knew how to castle properly (let's not mention en-passant). But, ALL of them insisted they knew how to play chess.
So, let's do this....
I played black every game. They would open with 1.h3 or g4. I made mostly random moves, allowing the players to capture my pieces at will, if they saw the opportunity. Three of the games I decided to only # with a Q and B (but I didn't tell anyone that). Three other games I # with only Q + N.
And to one opponent I gave rook odds + both Ns and both Bs. I won with two Qs.
Only one game did I think would be serious for me. My opponent opened with 1.d4. I was like,"yes!" So I replied with Nf6, going for a KID. Next move 2. h3....... Ok, so I continued with the KID set up. Next thing I know, I was asked, "How did you get all of your pieces out like that?"
It was fun. I didn't make anyone feel bad or anything. I was about to teach them some things, but one of them was a "chess-know-it-all" (one who tried to move pawns sideways). It was the most OTB games I have ever played inside 1.5 hours.
I mean at that rate (and rating) you could've held a simul. heh! :)

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dragonair's levitation abilities make it easy to catch its prey... hehehehe :3

Bughouse today:
7 friends and I were playing bughouse and we had 2 boards, 2 clocks, and 2 bags of chess pieces. That was only enough for 4 people to play. We played bughouse, like we always do. We decided to have team subs. We all chose a partner and whichever team loses gets switched out by the next team. Each player has 5 minutes.
First game: I was playing black and I basically built a pawn formation and my partner gave me all the knights within 2 minutes. I used my knights to gain 2 queen, 2 rooks, 3 bishops, and 2 knights. Soon enough, I cleared the enemy, and I was close to checkmating him. But my partner checkmated his opponent first.
2nd Game: I was still playing black and i was facing a new opponent. I was losing right off the bat so I came up a strategy to drop pieces and soon enough the tide had turned. I grew an impenetrable turtle and traded so many pieces. My opponent and I got our boards depleted and I looked at the other board and I saw that my partner was obliterating the opponent some weird 2 layers of pawns. I didn't realize that he gave my like 10 pieces lol and after 30 seconds I realized i had pieces to drop so I dropped a rook, putting the opponent's king in check. He moved his king to the left one square. I dropped a bishop(protected) and put him into check again. I dropped another rook on the second to last row away from the king. He dropped a pawn. I dropped a queen, making it checkmate.
Game 3: I basically opened my defenses and sacked all my pieces. I gave a free queen in exchange for a pawn. My partner was still doing fine with like 15 pawns and my partner's enemy couldn't even do anything with two queens. My opponent ended up getting pawns only and somehow im getting all the good pieces back and I checkmated him in two moves.
My partner and I ended up winning

Yeah. I felt like Paul morphy

WELL, I just finished reading a novel called The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis (302 pages). With my procrastination it took me a few weeks to read but I finished it last night! The main character Beth Harmon (she becomes a chess prodigy at a young age, and then......) and her idol is Paul Morphy. She loves reviewing his games printed in chess game books and she's an attacking player like him. I was a little disappointed that more of the book wasn't dedicated to chess itself, but then again, that also is what made up the narrative. Would I recommend it? I suppose. I wasn't exactly crazy about it though.

Bughouse today:
...
Two layers of pawns. That sounds incredibly intriguing. I like it!

"How do you tell which pawn is which?''
LOL
And how do you tell which knight is which?? Oh god!!!!! I can't play chess!!!!!

I've sent two chess.com users with the username "pizza" in the name a Have Some Pizza trophy. I feel very accomplished online here today.

"Is this a draught (checkers) variant?"
lol. That's when we tell them that draught is a chess variant. ha...

Legitimate question! I wondered too. Apparently there's an International Chess Day because:
"This day is celebrated globally with professional and amateur chess tournaments, seminars and lectures aimed to promote the most intelligent of all sports. " And here's some history if anyone's out there reading this, lol: "This holiday was initiated by UNESCO in 1966 to commemorate the date of FIDE establishment on the 20th of July 1924 in Paris. Today FIDE embraces 186 national chess federations, 117 of which are recognized by the national Olympic committees of their countries."(Here's the letter today from FIDE's President: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov) PS sorry for the random change of font.
