Simpsons Theme Chess Sets

Are they for philistines? Are they a good encouragement for youngsters wanting to get involved in the great game? Maybe you own one or maybe you find the idea of Homer's Bart to e4 a total blasphemy. Your views please.

i'm not a fan at all. they confuse the pieces too much. i teach my own kids on regular staunton sets :)

i dont like them eitha - i find myself gettin confused wen tryin to concentrate on the game an it can b difficult to tell which piece is which! the classic set is definately the best :)

i like novelty sets, but don't like using them to play.

Personally, I think teaching on anything but a traditional chess set would confuse a beginner.

i think anything that gets chess into the mainstream is a plus,it may be harder to play with them, but you can have a classic set and simpson fans can play with there set.its not like simpson sets are forcing you to play with them..

ive used paper pieces on a piece of notebook paper to play,so what ever works

have you ever lost a piece and had to substitute it with a penny,or little rock,or something??lol

nice one james, ive had to do that before, in fact, years ago i used a subuteo interchangeable goalkeeper for a king. it was a last resort though. and james, i think you are just trying to get your points up by just sending one sentence at a time.

I have a Simpson's Chess set but I never use it for actual games.  The set is pretty cool but I think it would be a headache to play with.

personally, i cant see the point of having  chess board that you dont use. i love to se a nice set, but i would want it to be functional. personal preference i suppose.

I totally agree! Accept where I come from we would say "the simpsons are the bollocks!" I remember when it first came out so you must be quite young mate.

Like totally!

Actually Tony, to be completely anally retentive, we would say "the Simpsons are the dog's bollocks!"  Just to explain to non-native English speakers (and Americans), this phrase refers to the fact that a dog can lick his own gonads, and therefore is used to describe an ideal situation or something desirable.
