You can engineer the game any way you want but there is a standard. Most of it is based on etiquette. If you play a guy in person and flash that they won't wanna play.
I've played three times just to win on a draw and it always feels wrong. I've stalemated and it always feels wrong.
Ive never seen a GM be mated,
GMs do get mated. But it is not common. They usually resign earlier than that.
The thing re:resignation,if your beaten and keep playing you look like an idiot ,for not seeing it coming , Resignation is the gentlemanly thing to do ,I actually try not to mate opponents by the gg method!
