The thing re:resignation,if your beaten and keep playing you look like an idiot ,for not seeing it coming , Resignation is the gentlemanly thing to do ,I actually try not to mate opponents by the gg method!

Is it still a 'spite check' if you can repeat it indefinitely and any other move will worsen your position?

A repetitive move by both players made 3 times each ,either player can "claim"a drawn match !

Look at history.  When is the last time you've seen a master resign unless it was a forced mate?

Avatar of sidesquare

Plus, this is getting kind of weird now that he's talking about a forced draw.

Avatar of sidesquare

That being said, it's generally nice to shake the players hand before and after the game.

Ive never seen a GM be mated,

And as for rep mate ,I was repling to lola, not you

You can engineer the game any way you want but there is a standard.  Most of it is based on etiquette.  If you play a guy in person and flash that they won't wanna play.

But I,m sure your vast knowledge of chess etiquette far exceeds the normal persons grasp !

Avatar of sidesquare

Yeah, there's a three spot rule.  You should focus on that to win.

Avatar of sidesquare

I've played in person if that's what you mean.

Avatar of razzarainbow

Now I,m lost weird or what ,man

Avatar of sidesquare

And I don't play with boners in person.

Avatar of sidesquare

I've played three times just to win on a draw and it always feels wrong.  I've stalemated and it always feels wrong.

Avatar of sidesquare

You lost now? Or do I have to spell it out?

GMs do get mated. But it is not common. They usually resign earlier than that.

sidesquare, I'm guessing you're about 12 years old? Quite normal then to want to go to the bitter end but adults resign games in hopeless positions because to carry on is just wasting both players' time.
