Situations with pawns

I have a three pawn phalanx vs a single pawn. The opposing pawn is opposite a wing pawn and 2 squares away. There is also a rook 1 row back of the opposing pawn. Are

there any principles or guidelines to assist one in this situation.

This is the situation:

E4 to h4 =Wp,bp,bp,bp

E3 to h3 =blank

E2 to h2= white K, Wp,blank,blank

H1 = white R

White has a rook on d1 and my rooks are behind my pawns in g and h. I am not asking you to solve my problem but to provide guidelines for similar situations in future games. Thanks for your help.
