Well the beasts have come a long way since Deep Blue.
Most recently, Kramnik got beat 4-2 by Deep Fritz in 2006 and I don't believe too many Super GMs wanted to take a stab at this brand of humiliation since then.
I would think that the jury is no longer out regarding who is better at head-to-head match play.
Yeah, they've even had move+pawn odds in favor of the human and humans still loose (not every game but the match). You can look up some Rybka matches that used this.
Deep blue was good and all, but at that point I don't think computers were better yet. Kasparov beat deep blue the first time around (peope don't seem to remember that) and lost the 2nd match. He didn't play his bets stuff in either match.
Can the best computer EASILY beat the best human now? I've heard of Deep Blue, but I'm not up on the current stuff.
