sound on blitz chess

When I play one minute games, lately, some players shut off their sound so I can't hear the clicks. I have poor vision and I react to the sound. Now, some players are distracting me by turning their sound on and then off again. Is this legal? If so, I'll just leave my sound off and pretend I am deaf so I can focus on the game.In real chess you have to hit the clock, so this is definitely only an on-line strategy. What is the correct rule, if any?

I don't believe that what your opponents do to their settings has any effect on what you hear.

Probably, there is something screwed up in your computer.

Valid point. I thought about that also. However, some players have responded by saying that they can do whatever they want. That's how I know that they are doing something. What I am looking for is whether there is a rule that they are not supposed to do that.  Thanks for your reply.

You had a previous thread where you imagined that people were hacking your games. That led nowhere.

If people had the ability to hack your computer, don't you think they'd go after something besides your chess rating or your sound card?

Don't you have any money?

How do you know it's not aliens? Oh, and thank you for wasting my time with your low IQ response. I'll wait for someone with a technical and mature answer.

I don't think it's the other players who are affecting your sound. I think it's chess.com's board that drops sound. About 80% of the time I have no sound at all. Sometimes there's sound for captures but not piece moves. Other times there's sound for checks. Occasionally there's sound for one side but not the other.

I believe their implementation of the board does handle it well when there's a poor interent connection. It seems not to realize the sounds haven't been properly loaded.

This has been true for quite some time and is part of the reason I stopped paying them $100 per year.

Thank you for your reply. I used to think that too but (1) why does it only happen on one minute games? (2) if you are correct, then chess.com is not maintaining their site properly. I know that this doesn't happen on other chess websites(3) it is usually accompanied by other cheating, such as I go from 50 seconds remaining to 10 seconds remaining, in two seconds (4) I have read articles and posts even on chess.com that hackers are developing software that allows them to do this (5) it happens to me only on one minute chess. That means that the technology is out there and eventually the hackers will have the ability to ruin all the different types of online games and people will just join websites that make more of an effort to stop it. That will eventually cause chess.com to close its doors, which would be a shame, because I really enjoy the site and I am on everyday. I don't think they understand yet that 15 million people is a drop in the bucket in the cyber world. I really hope they stop the abuse before its too late.
